Juan Pablo Rodríguez Alvarado

   

Juan Pablo Rodriguez Alvarado has played harp since 1985. He studied harp with both Benito Martínez Santillán and Arturo Mendoza, harpist with Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlean for 50 years (1945 - 1995). He also studied harmony and bass with Natividad Santiago, singing with María de la Luz Girón, and violin with Salvador Zambrano.

Juan Pablo is known not only as a harpist, but also as a musical arranger, director, violinist, and instructor. He has taught at the Encuentro del Mariachi in Guadalajara (1994 & 1996). In addition, in his 20 some years as a mariachi, Juan Pablo has played in numerous mariachis in both Guadlajara and Mexico City, including Mariachi Los Toritos, Mariachi Los Tecolotes, Mariachi Nuevo México, Mariachi Juvenil Tecalitlán, Mariachi Juvenil de México, Mariachi de América, Mariachi Arriba Juárez, Mariachi Emperadores, Mariachi Real Santa Cecilia, Mariachi Los Rancheros De México, Mariachi Horizontes De México, Mariachi Juanacatlán, Mariachi Nuevo Sol, Mariachi Estampas De México, as well as others. and at various times in his carrer has accompanied such artists as Veronica Castro, Rocío Banquells, Guadalupe Pineda, Angeles Ochoa, Aida Cuevas, Manolo Muñoz, Yolanda Del Río, Maria Victoria, La Prieta Linda, Lola Beltrán, Lucha Villa, Amalia Mendoza "La Tariacuri", y El Charro Avitia, among others. With different groups he has traveled throughout Mexico, and as far away as Hawai'i.
